We’re seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Assistant Controller to join the PureBites® and Primal Pet Foods Team.

SUMMARY
The Assistant Corporate Controller will be responsible for helping manage the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls by supporting the Finance department and establishing strong working relationships with internal and external partners. General areas of responsibility include month-end close; audit and compliance management; financial operations and process improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Accounting and Month-End Close:

  1. Execute the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all closing activities
  2. Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation
  3. Perform income statement, balance sheet account and cash flow analysis, identifying and promptly resolving issues
     Audit & Compliance Management:
  1. Coordinate annual financial audits, serving as a primary point of contact for external auditors and preparing required schedules
  2. Support 401(k) Form 5500 audits, ensuring plan compliance and timely data submission
  3. Facilitate monthly Sales & Use Tax filings in collaboration with an external tax consulting firm
  4. Corporate Entity Governance, Annual State Fillings, Registered Agent

Financial Operations & Administration
  1. Manage Accounts Receivable (AR) aging, driving collections and monitoring credit risk
  2. Oversee supplier and customer onboarding, maintaining master data accuracy and system compliance
  3. Support the annual insurance renewal process and manage ongoing corporate insurance documentation
Accounting Systems & Process Improvements
  1. Partner with IT on ERP accounting related projects to drive continuous system improvements, configuration changes, and optimization initiatives
  2. Partner with Site Controller and Inventory Management Team to strengthen current processes and minimize reporting variances to standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required
    • A minimum of five years’ experience in all aspects of accounting in a small to medium-sized organization
    • Experience in food or other manufacturing and cost accounting preferred
    • Experience with strategic projects and analysis of large, complex sets of data
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite, mastery of Excel
    • Broad experience with other software and financial systems
    • Ability to prioritize and follow-through to achieve results and meet deadlines to meet the needs of the business
    • Previous ERP experience required

  • Employment Type: Full-Time, Monday to Friday
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid – in-office with flexibility to work from home a few days per week
  • Target Start Date: September 2026

This is a full-time, Monday to Friday position based at our Head Office in Vaudreuil-Dorion, with the        flexibility to work from home a few days per week. We are seeking candidates located in the Montreal, West Island, and Vaudreuil-Dorion areas who are able to commute to our office as required.
